Dr. Harrison has been invited to be one of three speakers at a special panel on language and sexuality at the 2012 TESOL Conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. The session is sponsored by the ILGBTF Caucus and is titled "Culture, language, and sexuality: Critical issues in EFL/ESL classrooms".
"In my country, lesbians and gays don't exist!" English-language teachers are charged not only with language instruction, but also with mediating learners' understandings of culturally-embedded and socially-mediated constructs surrounding sexual identity: their own; their peers'; their teachers'. This interactive panel discussion explores cultural collisions and successful navigations.
